The History of Converse

The Converse Rubber Shoe Company was founded in 1908 by Massachusetts resident Marquis Mills Converse. Previously a worker in a footwear manufacturing firm, Mr Converse decided to go out on his own and start a rubber shoe company in Malden, Massachusetts, which became the birthplace of his most iconic shoes. Converse began manufacturing the All-Star basketball shoes in 1917, but it wasn’t until 1923 that their even-more-successful successor would be born.
On day, renowned basketball player Charles H. “Chuck” Taylor wandered into the Converse store complaining of sore feet, and in that moment, the iconic partnership between Converse and Chuck Taylor was born.
